How sure are we?

The evidence ladder

Every article carries one of these grades.

  1. A

    Strong evidence

Systematic reviews or several large, well-designed studies agree.

  2. B

    Moderate evidence

Good studies point the same way, but more research is needed.

  3. C

    Limited evidence

Small or early studies. Treat as a signal, not a conclusion.

  4. D

    Expert opinion

Clinical or academic experience, not yet tested in research.

  5. Y

    Lived experience

First-person knowledge from autistic and neurodivergent people. A different kind of knowledge, not a lower rung.

  6. ✕

    No evidence

Claims that research has tested and not supported.
